What is Amla fruit?
Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry or 'Amalaki' are small, round to spherical berries. The botanical name of Amla is 'Emblica officinalis'. Ripening in autumn, the berries are harvested by hand after climbing to upper branches bearing the fruits. According to Ayurveda, Amla fruit has five tastes namely sour, astringent, pungent, bitter and a sweet after taste. The fruit is fibrous.
