What is Manjistha?
Manjistha or Indian Madder is a prickly climber that can grow up to 3 metres in length. It is found throughout India, from the hot plains of the south to the temperate forests of the Himalayas. The botanical name is 'Rubia cordifolia’ and it is also known as Manjith’. It was an economically important source of red pigment in many regions of Asia, Europe and Africa. Manjistha translates to “bright red.”. The roots of Rubia cordifolia are used in Ayurveda.
