Snehana (Oiling)
Before the actual operation of purification begins, there is a need to prepare the body with prescribed methods to encourage it to let go of toxins. These two procedures are 'Snehana (Oiling)' and 'Svedana (Warming)'.
Snehana is oiling, which is both - internal and external. The purpose is to lubricate all the minute channels of the body, to create softness, smoothness and also to help release the toxins from deep tissues.
Snehana can be given for three to seven days as indicated.
Internal Ghee Intake
Internal Snehana is done, commonly by taking liquid ghee internally.
You will be given liquid ghee in the morning for three to seven days.
The quantity of liquid ghee will be increased subsequently until the proper signs of oleation are achieved.
The quantity and duration of ghee will be determined by the Ayurvedic Consultant and will be specific to your digestive capacity and body constitution.
External Snehana (Oiling)
Externally, Snehana is done by oil massages. Specific herbal Oil is applied to the body with a particular type of massage that helps the toxins to move towards the gastrointestinal tract.
Oil massage also helps the superficial and deep tissues soft and supple thus helping to remove stress and nourish the nervous system. All our ayurvedic oils are handcrafted in London and specifically prepared for Panchakarma therapies.
Different types of oil treatments and massages are given to achieve this -
Abhyanga
Pizhichil (Parisheka)
Shirodhara
